Steam Peeling and Blanchers
For over 30 years, PKC of Germany has been one of the leaders in steam peeler manufacture for the vegetable processing industry.
Many UK companies have counted on the combinatiuon of Holmach and PKC to peel everything from the humble potato to the more exotic Rootibaga and even melons! PKC couple this with the manufacture of belt and screw blanchers, fryers, brush and rod washing, de-stoning and abrasive roller peelers equipment.
The flash steam peeling principle was developed by Peter Holland together with PKC, in the early 1970’s when an installation of a steam peeler went slightly wrong, causing high pressure steam to be introduced to the peeling vessel. When suddenly the pressure was evacuated the jackets of the root vegetables were blown off by the water boiling immediately underneath the skin. Flash peeling was thus born!
Applicable for all types of root vegetable, steam peeling is one of the most efficient means of peeling as it is also able to remove deep eyes, without the poor yield associated with product loss in abrasive peeling.
Coupled with blanchers and fryers, Holmach is able to offer complete lines for potato crisp, chip and mash production as well.
